What Makes Your Program Truly Experiential? Still Crazy After All These Years?
FoUrTeams IV. Annual International Advanced Trainer Workshop
Altenkirchen (Germany), November 22 to 24, 2004.
This year with Johan Hovelynk.
Many seminars today are labeled 'experiential' or 'experience-based' programs. As experiential trainers, we believe in the power of our programs and this learning method. But what does the label mean? What does the method consist of? What makes our program 'experiential'?
FoUrTeams© wants to challenge advanced trainers to take a critical look at our roles as facilitators of experiential programs:
- How do you challenge yourself and the participants to work experientially?
- Where does this approach create unique opportunities?
- Where does it meet its limits and is best combined with different methods and techniques?
- What do you do to keep up your own constant interest in your programs and training approach?
As trainers, we constantly ask our participants to step out of their comfort zone and take a risk. Do we 'walk our talk' and do the same? During this workshop we invite you to become 'uncomfortable', question your beliefs and experiences, and - most importantly - learn and grow together! In our successful series of Annual International Advanced Trainers Workshops, we are proud to have contracted Johan Hovelynk as the workshop leader for this fourth one with a truly essential theme for Experiential Facilitators.
Johan Hovelynk will:
- Share his questions and experience
- Foster open communication
- Stimulate critical reflection on theory and practice in our field
- Provoke new ideas and insights
FoUrTeams© will:
- Organize yet another workshop in an environment of friends, to chat, explore, and connect
- Make sure there is enough room for “commercial breaks” to announce your own workshop, project or services
- Create network opportunities with experienced professionals from a wide variety of backgrounds
You should prepare for the workshop by:
- Reflecting about your own approach and motives to work experientially
- Bring examples of activities and tools you like to use
- Get ready to share your questions and question your convictions
This two-day workshop is meant for trainers on an advanced level. Participants should have a thorough understanding of what experiential education is about and have some years of experience working in the field. The more you can bring with you to share - the more you will get out of it!
Program: We will start on November 22 at 18:00 hrs with a welcome dinner and an introduction session to the program. On November 24 we will close our workshop at 17:00 hrs. The exact schedule will be communicated later and depends on the specific desires expressed by the participants. The workshop will be conducted using in- and outdoor sessions, and experiential as well as theoretical units.
